Dammit, Bobby!!!
Miami loses this evening but I couldn't enjoy it because you and your idiot son blew it in College Park earlier in the afternoon! I thought that the Chris Rix era was over in Tallahassee!!! IMO, leave Wyatt Sexton in the game and we win. If I'm wrong, he develops some more maturity. Instead, another Chris Rix disappointment and a post-season trip to The "Tire" Bowl. Wow, I'm sure those Golden Chiefs in Tallahassee will be all over that late December trip to Charlotte...
And better late than never...
Boston... good times never seemed so good!

Heading west 2 games up
Sox, Schilling beat Cardinals, 6-2, in Game 2
It might have been the last Fenway Park game of the magical 2004 season. And if it was, there'll be a parade in Boston sometime before Election Day . . . perhaps the grandest celebration in 374 years of Hub history.
Curt Schilling, the gifted, gritty veteran who has given a whole new meaning to red sock, last night hurled Boston's Laughing Gas House Gang to a 6-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of the World Series. The Red Sox lead the best-of-seven series 2-0, and if they can win twice in the next three days at Busch Stadium, the Sox will have their first World Series championship since 1918.
In other words, put pink champagne on ice, but keep it corked. The Cardinals were 53-28 at home this year (plus 6-0 in the playoffs) and Red Sox Nation would do well to rememeber 1986, when the Sox won the first two games of the World Series at Shea Stadium only to lose four of the last five to the New York Mets. This is the Sox's first World Series since that fateful event.
The 37-year-old Schilling, who said he came to Boston to win a World Series, pitched six innings of four-hit, one-run (unearned) ball, working again while blood seeped into the white sanitary hose that covered his sutured right ankle. The surgical procedure, designed to stabilize a dislocated tendon in Schilling's right ankle, worked for the second time in less than a week.
"It was the most unbelievable day of my life," said Schilling. "So many things happened. I woke up at 7 o'clock this morning. I couldn't walk. I couldn't move. I don't know what had happened, but I knew when I woke up that there was a problem. I wasn't going to go out on the mound the way I felt . . . I don't know the medical science behind it . . . I honest-to-God did not think I was going to take the ball today." (By Dan Shaughnessy, The Boston Globe) View the entire article

On to a Game 7 showdown
Schilling leads Sox to third win in row over N.Y.
NEW YORK -- Sunday night the Red Sox were three outs from being swept from the playoffs by the hated Yankees. They had lost a playoff game at Fenway Park by the humiliating score of 19-8 Saturday night and some members of their loyal Nation felt betrayed and abandoned.
That was just a few long days, sleepless nights, and extra innings ago. But now the 2004 Boston Red Sox -- the wildest of wild-card entries -- are just one victory from hardball heaven and the greatest baseball comeback story ever told.
Led by Curt Schilling's seven innings of four-hit pitching and Mark Bellhorn's three-run homer, the Red Sox beat the Yankees again last night, 4-2, to square their American League Championship Series at 3-3. Tonight at Yankee Stadium they will attempt to conquer the Evil Empire on enemy soil. They will try to become the first team in big league annals to recover from a 3-0 deficit, busting ghosts that have haunted them in this venerable baseball theater for more than three-quarters of a century.
In that spirit, Derek Lowe is tentatively scheduled to get the start for Boston. With the Red Sox it's always about redemption and history, and with the exception of Tim Wakefield (who also could get the ball), no Sox pitcher embodies both elements more than Lowe. Yankees manager Joe Torre said he had both elements more than Wakefield.
It would be fitting, almost fictitious, if it came down to yet another seventh game (could we have a Game of the Century two years in a row?) after all that has happened in the last 12 months, not to mention the 100 years of bare-knuckle brawls and front-office squalls that preceded last October's stunning Yankee comeback against Boston. FSU-Virginia: What showdown?
Sexton, 'Noles stuff Cavaliers
This was to be the game where Virginia came of age. Instead, it was redshirt sophomore Wyatt Sexton who played beyond his 20 years in leading Florida State to a convincing 36-3 victory over No.6 Virginia on Saturday night.
Sexton, who completed 20 of 26 passes for a career-high 275 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, did all he could to make certain he'll be directing No.7 FSU's offense as it fights its way back into contention for a national title. Leon Washington and Lorenzo Booker combined for 191 yards rushing on 31 carries. And FSU's defense put in what was arguably its best effort of the season in chasing Virginia quarterback Marques Hagans early in the fourth quarter and earning five sacks. Linebacker Ernie Sims, backing vows of bringing the hammer to Virginia's touted offense, led with two sacks.
"I couldn't take him out, the way he was playing," FSU coach Bobby Bowden said of Sexton, who was also hurt by four dropped passes. "I couldn't ask for better out of Wyatt. You can figure out (who will start against Wake Forest). He's gotten better every week. He's passed every scenario so far.
"As long as you play defense like that, you should win. It's the kind of win to make me feel like we put it together." (By Steve Ellis, Tallahassee Democrat) View the entire article
Cavaliers bring out the best in these 'Noles
TALLAHASSEE -- The old champs are back in business.
And don't forget it.
Some said they'd lost their edge. Some said, they no longer could dominate or intimidate. Some said up-and-coming programs such as Virginia were younger and hungrier than Bobby Bowden's old, trusty champs of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Let this dominating 36-3 Florida State victory be a lesson to all those people: Virginia is still Virginia. And the Seminoles -- even with the season-opening loss to Miami -- still might be the class of the ACC.
I know, I know, this was supposed to be some sort of coming-of-age bar mitzvah for Coach Al Groh and his unbeaten Virginia Cavaliers. Instead, it was Bobby and his boys showing up at the kiddie party riding Harleys and packing heat. (By Mike Bianchi, Orlando Sentinel) View the entire article

Oops, he did it again...
With apologies to Britney Spears, President George W. Bush seems to forget some statements he made regarding the War on Terror:

We got him on the OBL comment

Holy shit. Let's dig up that quote
Here it is:
13 march 2003 press conference:
Q: Mr. President, in your speeches now, you rarely talk or mention Osama bin Laden. Why is that? [...]
BUSH: ... I don't know where he is. Nor -- you know, I just don't spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you [...]
Q: Do you believe the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead of alive?
BUSH: As I say, we hadn't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, you know, again, I don't know where he is.
I'll repeat what I said: I truly am not that concerned about him.
He's a freakin' LIAR. Big one, folks.
Wait a second maybe the President forgot that statement because it has been so long since he actually had a press conference...

Bright House Networks Central Florida vs. FOX Sports Net Florida
Instead of having to deal with this question every time it comes up, why doesn't Bright House just add FSN Florida??? First it was the FSU-Iowa State game a couple of years ago. We (in Orlando) don't get "local" MLB except for the Rays on PAX. And, we don't get the BDSSP either. But, what happens when FOX has Red Sox-Yankees on FOX and Astros-Cardinals on your local FSN affiliate? Evidently Sunshine Network comes to the rescue...
NLCS on Sunshine in select areas Sunshine Network will air Game 1 of the National League Championship Series in selected areas around the state. The Astros-Cardinals matchup will be seen on Bright House Central Florida; Comcast Cable in Sarasota, Lake Placid, Lake Wales, Venice, Wauchula, Sebring, Port Charlotte, Cape Haze, Arcadia, Spring Lake, Leesburg, Tallahassee, Perry, Quincy and Wakulla; and Mediacom in Gulf Breeze, Pensacola Beach, Navarre, Milton and Pace. This game is being distributed via Fox Cable Networks. Sunshine is owned by Fox Cable and is therefore the distribution outlet for the markets listed above. The game is available in other areas on FSN Florida and on DirecTV channel 634, DISH Network channel 423. The ALCS Game #2 between Boston and New York is available on your local Fox broadcast affiliate.
Instead of being one of four cable outlets in Florida without FSN why don't they just add it to our cable lineup? Of course they didn't offer ESPN HD until last month...
